Leaning into the Learning Curve!

This year has been a tremendous learning curve for me and instead of shying away from it I'm striving to 'forge onward' and it is an adventure! Like most adventures there often is a 'bushwhacking' stage and I feel like that is where I'm at. However, I can't wait to one of the clearings on a mountain top to see the grand view! It typical Victor-style I'd like to give you a very brief update (primarily bullet pointed!) of what I have been doing of late and what the Lord has been teaching me. A thousand pardons for the lack of pictures. I do hope to pick up some more photography soon.

1st Year Teaching
I have been teaching high school Bible for Grade 9-12 along with my department head whose name is Ryan Potter. It has been such a blessing to work with Ryan since he is easy to talk to and has been teaching in the Bible department for a number of years now so he has been teaching me the ropes.

COETAIL Master's Program
I have just recently joined a master's program that is being hosted at Yokohama International School (YIS) through Buffalo State University, New York. The course is unusual in that it is only offered to international teachers and offers a Certificate of Educational Technology and Informational Literacy (COETAIL). In the cohort we are essentially learning how to enhance our classroom teaching through the use of digital technologies. Among other things that we are learning about right now is the use of blogs, video, Creative Commons, Twitter, GoogleDocs and Google Apps. There are teachers from many different schools represented and also from varying subject areas. One of the most exciting things for me is that these teachers are people that I will see from time to time outside of the class because they are in the Kanto Plains and this master's course is simply a platform to be able to find some professional common ground. If you would like to see my blog for the course then please go to Inspiration.

Coaching Field Hockey
We had 21 girls on the team this year and were both league and tournament champs. We'll have 6 seniors graduating this year so it will be a great opportunity for the underclassmen to really step it up and fill their shoes! Here are a few pictures of the team.
